Opening three cash ISA’s in same tax year

Hello, I understand the government permits more than one ISA to be opened in the same year - but only some of the ISA providers allow it.  I wondered if there was a list of which allowed it which I could refer to?  Thankyou

Providers can prevent you from opening multiple ISAs with themselves, but they cannot lawfully interfere with your consumer relationships with other providers. You can simply spread your ISAs around different providers if any of your chosen providers won't let you open a second or third ISA.

I know one provider ( Aldermore) who were saying you could only open one ISA with them, have since changed their stance/updated their IT.
    Maybe there are more.
  • Assumption: We are talking about the ability to open multiple "new money" ISAs. (I use the terms "old money" for ISA accounts with previous years subs, and "new money" for subscriptions made this year.)

Back in the day, some ISA providers would allow you to have more than one "new money" ISA with them and those ISA's would be all covered by the same declaration. Or put another way, when the provider reported subscriptions to HMRC they would aggregate all the subscriptions and report one figure.
Other providers would only allow you to have a single ISA, because they lacked the ability to aggregate the figures.

Turn the clock to today, and that first group have been able to move seamlessly into the new order of things, probably with minimal changes, and the second group have been left playing catchup.

For the record I opened multiple fixed rate ISAs with Aldermore back in 2010, but they were both funded with "old money" transferred from different ISAs, and never received a penny of "new money".
