Letter from DWP is a CD (or DVD) is it a scam?

I've just received in a padded envelope, which I've now mislaid. I'm fairly certain that it appeared to come from the DWP.
Inside it was a CD (or DVD) -- ONLY
I'm concerned that this is a scam because most modern computers don't have DVD readers, it costs more than paper. Why would DWP send me a letter that I may not be able to read?
Thoughts?

Well as far as I'm aware the DWP never sends CDs out so it's either not from them or it's a scam (so also not from them....)

Unless of course the DWP knows that someone is registered blind and send an audio letter.  But even then I would think that they would send it by email.  (but still highly unlikely .....)

You can request audio versions of letters or leaflets on CD from the DWP.

But presumably the OP would know if they had requested one so we're back to it's not from DWP.  Or they made a mistake perhaps??

Maybe find it before worrying? You won't fall prey to a scam (if such it is) before you can play the DVD

Sounds like some kind of scam please think very carefully before say putting it in to a computer.  I would destroy it if it were me.
  • Disk is still occasionally used to transfer information in bulk, but you would surely remember if you’d requested information from DWP

What makes you think it came from DWP?

Have you been interviewed and it was recorded?  Maybe asked for a copy?

I've found the envelope. The only clues that it might be from DWP , is that the address label was stuck on with the DWP return address in Belfast.
However with no actual letter at all, I'm not going to open it.
It arrived out of the blue, I haven't asked for any special comms.

Sounds suspicious, it should only be tested on a test bench PC, not connected to any network or the the Internet.

If it did originate from DWP and you did not request information from them, then this is a potential breach of data, which is quite serious.
