probably just the latest in a long list of virtue signalling that companies have to do to make people think that they actually care about social issues for fear of any negative press0

Well, I got a prompt and very informative reply from JLR :
"The flag pictured is to celebrate Black History Month and will be raised at our sites throughout OctoberOur African & Caribbean Heritage (ACH) network led an initiative to design the flag, after observing that there is no unified design to represent the community. It was inspired by African Arts and Sculptures, which have the influence for the impressionist art movement as seen in Picasso's early work. Impressionism seeks to find symbolic meaning and references in art beyond the obvious subject matter. The flag uses internationally accepted colours across both the Caribbean and the continent of Africa the meaning derived from a study looking at why many of these African and Caribbean countries use these colours.- Red – Bloodline History
- Yellow – Sun Prosperity
- Green – Mother Nature
- Black - Melanin / Shared Identity
To convey a message of identity and unity. The colours are graphically interconnected to show unity and across each intersection, there is a change of hue and tone which shows both unity and individuality across the many countries and cultures identifiable within the African & Caribbean communities. The flag is being flown across seven JLR sites, including JLR Brazil when they celebrate their Black History Month in November. "
