Damage claim - apartment in Spain

Hi
I stayed at an apartment in Spain recently. The doors to the apartment were traditionally Spanish - metal on the outside and glass on the inside. On the last night I had to lean against the door slightly to double lock it and the glass cracked. When we checked out of the apartment the following day we mentioned it to the company and they said it would have to be reported. I've subsequently been sent a bill for 300 euros. My question is - should I pay this or should I refuse as surely the glass should have been toughened? It would have caused serious damage if it had broken totally (which it did the next day when we closed the door) .....
I really didn't lean on it heavily - should I just pay up any move on or fight this?
Many thanks for any advice

Your prerogative to try to argue about the robustness of the glass but I'd have thought it unlikely that the company would simply back down?1

I agree with you eskbanker - my arguement is more with the question that the glass should have been toughened? I'm not sure it's a law in Spain but I think iit is in the UK on rentals?

UK law is irrelevant.
