PSA610 MP3 Player

Hi, I have a small, round, blue mp3 player that's 3gb & is made by Philips but can't find the drivers on their site for Vista. I can put tracks onto it from my Vista machin but that's all. Is there any way to get a driver for it? if not, I'll have to find a Vista compatible machine...

You could try running your program in 'compatability mode': http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/

Email Philips and see what they have to say, if you had provided a model number then someone could have searched and seen what they maybe able to find. But without the model, it's a pretty pointless task unless you've got the time to search the philips website.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

I think the model number is in the heading. :)

Compatibility Mode should work. Otherwise Philips MP3 players sync with WMP anyway.
Doesn't Vista have the drivers anyway?

Actually, I have one of those. :) Just haven't gotten around to taking it out of the box yet.

That will teach me to go looking in the body for information, without checking the subject first won't it (rubs eyes).:rotfl:

  • Thanks for that folks! When I put the cd in (to install the software for the player) the pc goes through the startup & begins the install, then tells me that this may only be installed on windows xp. Can I install in compatibility mode??
  • I tried to mess with the options for the compatibility but the program doesn't give the option - it just tries (& fails) to instal, citing the machine not being XP as the reason. Does anyone know how I can make it work? I think I'll email the manufacturer (although they weren't 'super-happy' to help last time I spoke to them about one of their machines...)

I'm not sure why you feel the need to install any programs from the CD anyway.

Obviously if you can put tracks on to it via your Vista machine, it means that your Vista machine has installed the correct drivers.

What is it that you wish to do, that you cannot do currently?

I don't have Vista, but it seems to me as though if you want to run the programs on the disk in 'compatability mode' you'll need to browse the cd whilst it's in your cd drive using Windows Explorer: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_explorer.htm then right click on the appropriate .exe file. If your installing the drivers, then that would be the folder called 'Drivers' I would imagine. Then activate 'Compatability Mode' choose XP and see what happens.

If it's not working as you would expect, then sell the device and buy an ipod or similar that has vista support.

As far as I know(a guess, as I'm not in the UK with my machine), the software comprises of WMP 10, the drivers and maybe an additional component to help you find an install any firmware revisions.

You already have the first two. You can take a look at the Philips website to see if you already have the latest firmware revision installed.

What if you decide to buy a new mp3 player? How do you get the tracks off the mp3 player, onto the new hard-drive?

Windows Explorer, of if you plug the device into windows a box will popup usually asking you what you want to do 'browse files' would be a good choice, as it then starts windows explorer. Or you can invoke it using a short cut to explorer.exe or using the Start\Programs\Accessories\Windows Explorer icon in XP.

  • Thanks everyone! I have used Windows Explorer to copy the tracks from the MP3 player to my new pc - this is marvellous! SO many hours saved - thank you all so much! I will get a new MP3 player now that I have my music back onto the pc. Perhaps that's what I should have asked in the first place:rolleyes:

Many thanks for all your help again :j
