Vauxhall Puretech 1.2 belt failure - Known design fault - What can I do?
Comments

Yikes! My car is actually still running and driving flawlessly, just have to carry some oil around with me & top it up when it gets low. Hopefully it can wait until the new year at least and I'll get it done. If it has any problems after that, I'll go and fix it with a sledgehammer!0

My Crossland X 2019 has recently started to drink oil and the engine management light has now come on with a P0420 code I have had a full main dealer service and also have the Vauxhall complete extended warranty just dropped the thing off at the main dealer, when I mentioned it is a known failure I was met with blank stares not holing out much hope with them doing the right thing TBH
Surly this is worthy of group litigation

There is a group litigation happening in France, they're actually going for a criminal prosecution for endangering life, fraud and deception.

They are also taking group action in Spain, Italy and Belguim. From what I have read, they are looking to consolidate the group action across all EU countries into one group action

Seeing as you have a full main dealer service history and you have now dropped it off to a main dealer for diagnostic and repair, you should fully meet the criteria to claim compensation on the Stellantis Puretech Portal.
There is no class action going on here in UK as far as I'm aware. There really ought to be by now!
Visit the Stellantis portal and check if you are eligible. It might be an idea to contact the dealer to make them aware of this compensation scheme and see what they say.

Little confused why I have to pay and then claim, surly if they have extended the warranty it should be resolved at source

Your dealer will be a franchise & not owned by Stellantis. So unless it is deemed a warranty claim, you have to pay the dealer to investigate the issue, as they do not get paid till it is a warranty claim & then you get your money back.cletus1 said:Little confused why I have to pay and then claim, surly if they have extended the warranty it should be resolved at source
This is std practise now for franchises.
You need to read your warranty T/C just to make sure it is covered...Life in the slow lane1 -
Actually, some bad news. The compensation portal states that the problem has to have occurred before December 2024. Sorry, looks like you're in the same boat as me now.
My engine actually failed in October 2024, but the repair was carried out by my local garage, not a Stellantis network dealer, so that disqualified me.
There is some hope, albeit small, that if the European action is successful, it may force them to help victims in UK and wherever these cars were sold. One of the things they are challenging is that this compensation portal is not a good enough solution by a long way. For very reasons that you and I (and countless others) are experiencing.1 -
this was lovingly lifted from the stellantis websiteOil over-consumption linked to oil separator issue on a vehicle equipped▪ with 1.2 PureTech turbo engine Euro 6.2 and beyond, from February 2018 to December 2025.
The oil separator is the PCV valve

Fingers crossed, it could be just that. It could be valve stem oil seals, could even be head gasket.
How many miles has your car done? It seems this usually kicks in around 60k miles.0 -
Up to 10 years / 112,000 miles” PureTech Warranty Extension
This IS ongoing.
It does continue live for cars that qualify.
It covers new failures going forward — IF the engine qualifies and the conditions are met.
What Stellantis actually extended:
Coverage for specific failures (timing belt degradation, oil consumption issues).
Up to 10 years old or 112,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For previous-generation PureTech 1.0 and 1.2 engines.
Subject to maintenance conditions (correct oil, proper intervals, authorised network diagnosis, etc.).
.
That means:
A new 2025 failure CAN be covered under the 10-year warranty extension.
It just cannot be covered under the compensation/reimbursement scheme.
