Insuring New Vehicle with Current Insurer - Open Claim Pending

Recently my vehicle sustained damage outside the house and the perpetrator did not leave details. I am therefore having to claim against my own insurance with the vehicle likely to be written off.
I have just approached my Insurance Agent AA Beam regarding potentially insuring a new vehicle whist the claim is still ongoing. They have subsequently put through details of the new vehicle to the insurance provider who I think is Premier who have advised they will not insure the new vehicle.
Can they do this ? I am only two months into my policy which was renewed for a second year. The AA Beam contact said I would have to stand the full amount and then buy new insurance.
Has anyone come across this before ? Is it allowed ?

Yes it's allowed - and is often dependent on the insurance company. Some will allow the continuation of the policy for a replacement vehicle whereas others will terminate the policy following a significant claim and will expect the remainder of the annual policy cost to be settled (or they may deduct it from the payout)
It may be worth ascertaining whether they'll not insure it because of the previous claim or because they wouldn't have insured you on that vehicle anyway0 -
They will not insurer the particular new vehicle you've selected or they won't insurer any vehicle at all under this policy?ValleyOwl said:Recently my vehicle sustained damage outside the house and the perpetrator did not leave details.
