Long 0% purchases cards with no foreign transaction fees

Hello all,

I need to make a large purchase in $ soon, so I was looking for a credit card with long 0% purchases but also no transaction fees on foreign currency purchases and no monthly account fees.

I have spent a LOT of time looking and the best I can find is Virgin's Travel Credit Card, but it is only for 9 months.

Does anyone know of any better ones please?

Can typically only tick so many boxes... could look at a BT or MT card and use a normal travel card to make the purchase and move the cost across but you're almost certainly going to get some cost in doing so but likely to get a much longer interest free period

As you've discovered, the two tend to be mutually exclusive - you either get 0% spending or zero FX fees, but not both (with a few exceptions, as you've mentioned).

One option is as noted by DullGreyGuy - though you'll need to work out whether the BT fee outweighs the FX fees you'd be saving.

But in all likelihood, your best bet is going to be a standard "travel" card then pay it off when the statement arrives.  If you're not in a position to be able to do this, then you need to question whether you really "need" to make this purchase at all.
  • The card that ticks almost all those boxes is the Santander All in One credit card.  It has 15 months interest free on purchases and balance transfers (no fee for transfers either) + zero FX + pays 0.5% cashabck.

There is a fee of £3 per month but if you are doing a balance transfer it is probably worth it as there is no fee (compared with cards that charge 3% fee for BTs).  Also if you apply via Topcashback you get £17 cashback which pays for 5 months of the fee.

Just took this out and was surprised it isn't talked about much or included in the zero FX comparisons. Cashback posted as well although it will probably take several months to pay out!

The Nationwide did one earlier in the year, as I've got one. 15 months 0% and zero FX fees. You have to already be a member, though, which is easy enough

Thank you for all the helpful replies.
I have been declined for both the Virgin and Santander cards, so I'll have to abandon that plan completely.
I am already stoozing, and wanted this card to do some more stoozing but it's clearly not meant to be!
