I like the soda stream idea but how "friendly " are the gas bottles are they refillable?

I like the idea too, but wonder if a sode syphon will be cheaper and do the same job.

    Hi all

For a novelty shopping bag, and ONLY if you already have loads of old plastic bags, try this!

I used to drink 14+ cups of coffee a day 7 days a week, I'm now limiting myself to 2 cups a day 5 days a week.

I have switched from washing powder to soap nuts

Have ditched the likes of Mr Muscle and now make my own using white vinegar, bicarb and essential oils.

Use hand made soaps and Faith in Nature products.

Use recycled loo rolls instead of 'normal'.

Bought some reusable bags to use instead of carriers.

Try to reduce household waste by buying only what I need, using it and have bought a compost bin.
Next thing is to grow veggies myself

Feeling quite pleased with myself and just hope I can keep it up as hubby is a bit sceptical as I tend to go through 'phases'!:rotfl:

Bought some reuseable bags instead of carriers, dont buy as much make up as before. Use up things in my home before purchasing more such as shower gel.

When it comes to building materials I'm much more likely to see what I have before I go out and order for a job etc.

I've found that my stocks have gone down a fair bit, I am still able to invoice clients for materials used but rather than base them on what I've paid out, I can invoice them on what I would have paid out.

Also, we recently refurbished a house and simply listed what we needed for each job, and subtracted what we already had from the list - we saved a fortune!

Soda stream. We have 2 gas bottles and can exchange them for a refill. Problem is not in our town so needs to be tied in to a trip to the next town to get a sack of spuds etc from the farm shop - I have no idea on how green it is or how a soda syphon works.

  • I have stopped buying those disposable cleaning wipes for the kitchen and bathroom. They are very convenient but I realised I was not only preventing myself from using up loads of bottles of various cleaning products under the kitchen sink, but wasting money as well.

Meall plannign is a big saver on wasted food- and all the packaging that would have come with it- rather than wandering round MrT's in a daze picking up stuff as I went, if I have a meal plan, I only buy what I need.

Watering down washing up liquid- it's only ever used for a couple of pots at a time because we have a dishwasher.

Using a big bottle of concentrated flash/cif to add to an empty spray bottle then top up with water- have tried ecover et al, but DH is convinced they don't do such a good job, so this is a compromise.

Keeping a mini recycling bin next to the kitchen bin- then when this is full take it outside to empty it- opening the back (outside) door every time we want to put a bottle or can in the recycling container wastes unneccesary heat.;)

  • I'm trying to give up snacking - it should do wonders for my waist line, as well as cutting down on packaging and money spent.

I'd like to try making my own bath products, etc. Currently I have chopped up lemon and orange peel marinating in left over New Year's vodka for the first step in what will hopefully become 'citrus body splash':rotfl: I don't intend to replace and make up once it's used up (except I do need a bit of lippy..)

I'd love to learn to sew, but I'm terrified of sewing machines (my Dad had a nasty accident as a child and still has the scars...) and I wouldn't know where to begin. I bought a sewing machine out of a charity shop, but never got up the nerve to use it and Freecycled it..

I'm growing a window sill herb garden and hope to grow strawberries on the patio this year..

We'll see how it all goes!
