Does any other supplier have a scheme like this? Charge Your Solar Panel Battery with Battery Boost | OVO

There are several restrictions ATM, but it looks as if some of them may be relaxed in due course. It certainly beats sticking to tariffs like Economy 7 just to keep the battery charged at lower cost.

Octopus have numerous tariffs, to suit combinations of solar, batteries, EVs and heat pumps. Flux would be the nearest equivalent to what you are describing. There is also Intelligent Flux.

I just checked: the cheapest Flux import rate in my region is 14.26p/kWh, which compares badly with OVO's 10p/kWh. It would take a supercomputer to work out a comprehensive comparison ...

  • But OVO must be able to communicate with your inverter to make the charging work.  I can see what my inverter is doing remotely but I can't change the setting unless I'm at home.

EV tariffs are generally the best bet but you need an EV to qualify. However, it isn't just the import rate that deternines your overall annual expenditure. the Tim & Kat's Green Walk Youtube channel has a useful comparison tool for Octopus tariffs.
