Scottish Power. Nasty outfit. I have a daughter in a similar position to the OP.
When she bought her house SP ramped up the direct debits for gas and electric. Refused to offset excess cost of living grant against gas insisting it was electric only. She is thousands in credit and they will not give it back. She has got the direct debits down to £10 a month as a concession.
    It should be criminal.

Has she raised a formal complaint? If so, if her sums around the amount she should be able to claim back are correct, and if more than 8 weeks has passed without resolution then she should take it to the Ombudsman.
