I'm looking to find which discount scheme for people with a registered disability has the broadest range of shopping discounts, especially online.  Or the scheme who has the most members even if the shopping range is not as broad.  Entertainment/Days out discounts also of interest.

Ideally real world experience from someone who has a disability.

A quick internet search turns up DisabilityID, Purpl Discounts, AccessAble card (most require a small registration payment presumably to fund a person reviewing submitted documents).  I'll presume that any scheme has reasonable data security, a clear data privacy policy  (compliant with UK-GDPR) and therefore has registered with UK-ICO (or equivalent).  AccessAble seems to be more about finding shops with good support for disability in practical ways (good access for PRM, for example, I think autism support).

Some of the websites show the range of discounts up front, some you need register first (would require a payment, and I'm not actually disabled myself, I'm researching on behalf of someone else)

There are cards like nimbus which might get carers free entry to various venues but general discounts you probably won't find. The one that is advertised all over Facebook is a con.
You can buy various disability equipment vat free. Besides there is no such thing as registered disabled.
Why should disabled people get discounts not available to able bodied people?

Some of the ‘not necessarily disabled’ affinity schemes, related to such as current or former employment (for example The Blue Light Card, or Defence Discount Service) can offer some decent savings across many things.

I am told both of the above cards have a huge amount of members as both are in effect run by the same organisation, just have differing (or sometimes overlapping) eligibility and occasionally slightly different offers.

If one is a former Trade Union member (whether disabled or not), some Unions do affinity offers along the same lines.

Some of the 'specifically for disabled 'cards on social media are just a joke, bordering on being a scam.

  • Thanks so far to responders.

I'm specifically looking for personal shopping discounts for people who have a qualifying "document" e.g. blue badge, or in receipt of disability benefits.   Not so much for carer discounts (carer gets reduced price or free), money off disability equipment, nor discounts for current/former union membership or other groups.

In other words equivalent of Bluelight/Defence discount (which I was aware of, but not relevant in this case).

Other "group" discount schemes are good to know about but in the specific case also not relevant (person was previously self-employed, and their relevant professional association didn't have anything).

Some of the "group" schemes are available to any employer who wants to pay a fee to offer as a benefit to their employees, there are a few big companies that run many such schemes.  One of those big companies used to offer their discounts to people who were using them to engage with the former HMRC approved childcare vouchers.  I surprised the cycle to work scheme operators haven't got in on the game as well.

The only thing that I can think of that comes anywhere remotely near what you're seeking is Mark Bates insurance* has a 'premier club' that gives discounts on various things, possibly including gift cards - i.e. for a £100 gift card to use for shopping, you'd pay £95, that kind of thing.
[I've not investigated it much though as I never used really made use of those sorts of things when I had PerkBox through work.]

*Mark Bates do wheelchair and scooter insurance, I don't know whether they do other types as well.  And this is no particular recommendation; they just happened to be the option that covered what I personally needed.  They're certainly not the cheapest insurance option around.

Edit: to be clear, access to the discounts is only if you buy an insurance policy from MB.  It's not technically restricted to disabled people but in reality nondisabled people aren't going to spend hundreds of pounds insuring a wheelchair or mobility scooter they don't need.

TBH, might as well just use the likes of Quidco &/or TopCashBack etc.

Yes, there are.  Companies that I mentioned in my original post offer specific discounts via their websites, which require upload of such documents to gain access to the discounts.

Whether those discounts are any better than available via various unrestricted voucher code websites, or indeed Bluelight/Defence discount scheme, is what I am trying to find out from people who have direct experience.

For entry tickets i use my blue badge/ PIP

Online discounts.. VAT off disability specific stuff is usually a declaration form from the shop.. this is sometimes hidden so worth asking or looking.  I've had amazon sellers who have also done this for health specific stuff.

For other shopping discounts.. I have an access card (needed for entry to merlin events but can get it free or pay for upgraded version think £10 for three years) their fb page announced it was teaming up with a discount site.. possibly purple.. but i havent looked into it yet.
