Child trust fund

When my daughter was born she got £250 in test form the government which we were told how to invest. She has turned 18 and it’s now worth £4!!! How can that be. Why has she lost all the money? Should we have done something with it? Any advice?

Who told you how to invest, did you take their advice, what was it invested in?

If it was in an investment which produced no meaninful return, and the fees were somehow £1 a month, you lose all your money in 18 years. But as others have said you aren't giving us enough information here to answer your question.
