But it was the plug that went phut.  So it looks as if the charger was faulty; nothing to do with the socket.

Using A/C the charger is in the car. All a granny charger does is throttle the Amps required.

thank you. Yes by power supply I mean the box on the wall with trip switches. It was the plug that blew and the 13 amp fuse had broken. The plug socket outside is also black and cracked, it still has the red light on - have I just had a near miss?  I have found charging cables come with variable amps, 6-13amps.  How can I tell if the outside socket is 13amp, or indeed suitable for my needs. ?
This is one reason these chargers are for emergency only.
Please invest in a proper wall box. Yes they cost more, but what price do you put on your lives?
I accept what you say but nowhere does it say these chargers are for emergency only. I don't use my car for long journeys, some days I don't use my car. So charging slowly over a 6/7 hour period suits me.
Kia handbook clearly states this. Added in this is why very few manufactures actually supply them now.

I don't use my EV every day & it does not get charged every day. As a rule it would need once every 2 weeks for a charge of 6 to 7 hours. But given Octopus green days, it will not get a quick 10% to get the bonus points. So this month is 3 charges so far
Last year I did 8000 miles & the saving over petrol paid for the Ohme Home Pro wallbox in 9 months.

But the expense of the Ohme Home Pro walbox vs a granny charger, even two granny chargers, might never pay off.  In over 12 months I have spent about £10 charging my car away from home which would not have been necessary if I had been able to charge it faster at home (on the cheap rate).

Given you can't get Intelligent Octopus with a granny charger.
Which mean when I get a charge in the daytime (never had one declined). I'm getting offpeak rate for whole house use.
So I can use this to offset heavy house usage at cheap rate.
Which brings my average unit rate down to between 11 & 12p kWh in the last few months.
So not only saving on fuel costs, also saving on my daytime usage. As full price is 21.22p

Actually I think you can; you just need the right model of car.  I went on the Octopus website, told it I had a Tesla, Model 3 but no charger and it said:
Great news: Your Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus (49.0 kWh) should work with Intelligent Octopus Go

Exactly... you just need either the EV or the EVSE to be compatible and you can have IOG.

But obviously you’d have to manage the charge yourself as Octopus can’t talk to a granny charger as they would something like an Ohme or a Zappi.

They can talk to the Tesla. That is why it works. The Tesla manages the charging all by itself unlike most other EVs

I have a Tesla Model 3 and recently replaced my wife's car with an EV.

The Tesla is still light years ahead in pretty much every way.
