A four year old TV isn't worth anything close to the cost of a new one though.0

Spec of TV, size, value offered?davidh2604 said:Hi we bought a tv from Curry’s just under 4 years ago this has now been sent away for repair as the hdmi ports have stopped working this cannot be fixed they are sending us a voucher value which is nowhere near purchase price does anyone know if they are correct they said this is the devaluation price thanks0 -
A TV that you've had 4 years use of won't be giving you a voucher for it's full value.
If you post the spec of the TV and the value of the voucher offered - you'll get some views on whether the value offered is reasonable.0 -
Assuming they are dealing with it under your consumer rights rather than a warranty then a refund can have the use received prior to it failing deducted. The law doesn't say how use should be calculated but John Lewis for example do a straight line over 6 years so at 4 years old you'd get about 1/3 of its value backdavidh2604 said:Hi we bought a tv from Curry’s just under 4 years ago this has now been sent away for repair as the hdmi ports have stopped working this cannot be fixed they are sending us a voucher value which is nowhere near purchase price does anyone know if they are correct they said this is the devaluation price thanks
Whilst some people oddly talk about the value of an item when it breaks the law doesn't mention anything about depreciation but use1 -
As per @DullGreyGuy
The OP has had the untroubled use of a functioning TV for 4 years.
The OP isn't legally entitled to get that use for no cost, so Currys are entitled to deduct from any refund an amount to reflect that use.0
