New build on historic landfill

Subsidence is no longer a concern, as the property is being constructed using piled foundations. This is the same method used for most structures in the Netherlands, where much of the land is built on. Piled foundations are commonly used in challenging environments like sea beds, riverbeds, and areas near water bodies. It’s also the technique employed for high-rise buildings, so from a technical and structural perspective, these foundations are highly secure and reliable.sammyjammy said:It would make me twitchy but I would do my own research, it wouldn't be contamination that would worry me but subsidence. Not saying thats rational!

Thank you Annemos, I believe that was a different era with different regulations, and you're right—clay can be a concern. However, from a build perspective, I feel it’s quite safe now. The main issue is the stigma associated with a landfill, but like ReadingTim mentioned, I shouldn't be too worried about future buyers avoiding it.
Your feedback has given me a lot of confidence, and I really appreciate the practical insights. I’ve personally seen the piles that the foundation will be built on, and during the survey, a third-party company was inspecting those piles to ensure there were no issues. My own survey also confirmed that subsidence is unlikely for at least the next 25 years due to the use of piled foundations and the history of the landfill.
Thanks again to everyone for your valuable input!
