Tablet from Amazon not fit for purpose

We bought tablets from Amazon in July. They're awful. One in particular is faulty - keeps restarting and then getting stuck in reboot mode.

Amazon claim there's nothing they can do. Are they right?

As with every Amazon consumer rights issue, was it bought direct from Amazon or a 3rd party seller. Do you have a link to the product?

Some actual information would be helpful

    eg why are they "awful"?

Did you make it clear to the seller that you wanted them for a "particular purpose"?

You may need to separate out the two tablets and treat them differently.

In what way are the tablets "awful" or "not fit for purpose"?
With regard to the tablet that is operating correctly, it may sound as though you are seeking "change of mind" return / refund and the time is expired for that option.  You may not have any other options in relation to that device.

The second device, which does appear to have a fault, then that is for the retailer to resolve within 6 months the fault is presumed to have been there since purchase.

When you say "We bought tablets...", how many tablets was that and are they all the same model?
  • If you only bought the tablets in July, they must still be under warranty if faulty.
If they have fewer features than you had hoped for but actually function properly then they won’t be accepted for return.
What exactly are the issues with them, can you post a link to the Amazon page?

I'm guessing these are cheap Chinese tablets purchased from an Amazon Marketplace seller who is probably based in China and using Fulfilment By Amazon to ship their orders (from UK Amazon warehouses).

Depending on when in July they were purchased, the OP might still be within the 90 day window for raising an A-to-Z claim.  If the 90 days have passed then Amazon won't help and the likely China based marketplace seller probably won't help either.  Trying to force the overseas seller to do anything will be an uphill battle.

Ok. So yes market place cheap Chinese tablets. Doogee is the brand. One keeps turning off and getting stuck in a reboot cycle. The other keeps turning off intermittently - has started it this week.

Interns of wanting them for a specific purpose, I would have assumed staying on would be a basic requirement and not need to be stated.

It's out of the 90days unfortunately.

We bought 4. One we sent back within 30 days after opening the other 3 and realising they were rubbish. The 3rd is just very very slow. I'm not expecting anything regarding that one (the spec is fine and they should be better than they are but the manufacturer just hasn't removed any of the bloat from the software meaning they are just very slow and the memory is already pretty full when they arrive).

I've tried to answer all questions apologies if I've missed any.

Amazon tend to wash their hands of their 3rd party sellers once the A-to-Z window has passed.  It’s quite likely you bought from a Chinese based seller so your legal route is very limited.
  • buy cheap buy twice! May not be the mantra of this site always but when it comes to things like tablets I think it is true (having brought cheap crap before for the kids).

Stick to Apple Ipad or Samsung tabs and you'll probably have a much better experience (even though it will cost more)

I couldn't agree more. I think with things like phones or tablets you do get what you pay for. A cheap tablet is a false economy.
