Baxi also do OpenTherm compatible boilers (but do check specific models, as I don't think all are) - If you are budget conscious, perhaps worth a look, but minimum output is not as good as the likes of Viessmann.

We have been saving for the last 4 years to be able to replace the boiler so we could afford the best most upto date and best efficient model.
So we can hopefully afford the best one to suit our needs, we figured as we will hopefully 🤞have it for many years to come and we're no longer spring chickens that it we keep us warm as we get older.
And our current one has a bad habit of throwing cold water at us whilst trying to have a hot shower and I end up cowering in the corner until the water runs warm again 😳 🥶.
So I will be looking forward to my hot water staying hot or I'll have to make my shower cubicle larger 🤭

    Not a typo.

We had planned to combine the main house and the granny flat systems, so went with a suitable sized boiler, the whole house is 280 sq metres, 21 radiators.

However, in the end, a year later, when we decided to try to do away with the granny flat boiler, unfortunately it turned out that this was not possible due to the layout of the pipework.  It was impossible to connect the water heating for the granny flat to the water heating for the main house without taking up an unacceptable area  of flooring, both carpeted and hard flooring

The disruption would have been huge, so we had to abandon that plan and fit a small boiler for the granny flat.

It works well, just like when my Mum was with us.

Our CH  gas bill is under £1000 per annum.   Electricity is a bit less,  but all  more than covered by what we receive for our generation from our solar PV panels and our metered export.

  • The quality of the installation out weighs any advantages of specific makes of boiler. Weather comp works well if installed correctly. German brands controllers are to complicated for many people so go for something simple if you think you may struggle.

Trvs are good, you can't be forced to have them tho. It's you're choice.
