British Gas Smart Meter
Hi All,
I’m having issues with my smart meter. My smart meter automatically sends British Gas my gas readings but not my Electricity readings.
I’ve contacted a number of times to get an engineer booked to see if there is an issue with my smart meter. But they keep telling me there’s no issue with the smart meter. I even gave them a manual reading which doesn’t show on my account for some reason.

I moved to my property in March 2024 and still have not got a statement for my electricity but I’m paying a direct debit which is just being credited to my account. I’m receiving my statements for my gas so that is fine.
I’ve even got the Smart Meter monitor but it doesn’t work and I’ve been told to keep it near the smart meter which I have but no luck.

Has anyone else had this issue and got it resolved? Please let me know and if you’ve got any advice I’d be grateful if you could share.
Thanks.

The IHD (the monitor) doesn't have anything to do with sending the readings to the supplier. Can you see the electricity reading by looking for it on the IHD though?
For now you need to be giving them regular manual readings for the electric I would suggest - otherwise you risk estimated bills which could be wildly out and you would end up owing them money. Keep a note of when you give the readings, and what they were.
It is also worth having a look at one of the third party operators like Loop or Bright to see if they can see your electricity use - if they can, it narrows it down to being a BG problem.
Regardless of the outcome of that, have you raised the meter issue as a formal complaint with BG? If not, you should do that now.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Another check is homebrew.n3rgy.com/. Find your MPAN, enter it on the page and tick the tiny box confirming that you are the bill payer and then click Check meter. You can ignore any warnings about security certificates - they don't affect functionality. Any other warnings or errors will help diagnose what's wrong.I'm not being lazy ...

For interest BG fitted an electricity smart meter back in June, all works as expected with correct information appearing on the IHD after about 24 hours. As I had not had a account statement since early Spring to make sure we were all on the same hymn sheet towards the end of August I asked them to provide an up to date statement. They said that they couldn't do this as they weren't receiving any readings from the meter. This rather surprised me as I could log on to my account on their site and see the correct usage there which exactly matched the readings I had been taking manually! I pointed this out to them but for nearly a week they were adamant that the meter was not sending them any information. After then initially saying that the site readings must be estimates they did finally manage to produce a statement which matched my calculations and all now seems to be OK.
This was all done by e-mail by the way.0
