Happened to me a couple of months ago, 18,000 points used in Croydon, I live in Hampshire . Contacted them via webchat. Card blocked, new card issues and all points added back.
  • I had it with Tesco Clubcard a few years back.

Ditto :(     Was just about to convert a boat load of Nectar points for an eBay purchase, to find some Richard Sole or Wayne Kerr had kindly spent 54,500 of MY nectar points in a Sainsbury's supermarket last Sunday. !!!!!! ?!? That's £272.50's worth. It's not a branch I've ever visited either.

I have my nectar card in my wallet.  At no point have I received any Nectar e-mail correspondence about the transaction, nor any SMS texts to authorise any transactions.

So, anyone got any ideas how this can happen ?

I've had a webchat with Nectar and they have agreed the transaction is fraudulent and have promised to cancel my card and issue me with a replacement + promised to return all the points I lost. Fair enough, but..... Is it simply a case of someone guessed a valid nectar card in store and asked to pay using points, even though they didn't have the ( my ) card ? Can't get my head around how this can happen without me knowing......and how can I stop this ever happening to me again ?  Or is the whole Nectar system security just wide open to abuse :(

The nectar security system is non existent for spending points in a sainsbury's store. You need a smart phone and a nectar card number. You enter the card number into something like Google wallet, or anything else that will generate a barcode. Scan at the till, done.

I use my own nectar card from Google wallet, so I'm not carrying around a real wallet full of loyalty cards. It's not at all suspicious for staff, plenty of people do this.

It's a bit scary that they've decided it's cheaper to refund people than come up with a more secure system. I just spend my points ASAP, I don't need the hassle of large amounts going missing if my number is compromised.

You can't covert Nectar points to eBay vouchers any more.  They stopped it on September 1st this year.

I had over £200 of points stolen, Nectar promised more than once to return them, but haven't done so. Their support options are very poor. There's clearly a national problem here, with their Facebook and Twitter accounts receiving theft reports almost on a daily basis. Instead of fixing their security, clearly they've decided the cheapest option is to let the thieves get away with it, and not to refund their innocent customers. Spend your Nectar points before someone else does!

Closure from me - I have had a new card No. issued and all of my missing points returned.   I contacted Nectar last Thursday and received a confirmation e-mail from Nectar today. So fairly swift.

They really need to address the security aspect though :(

  • A couple of days ago I spent all of 500 Nectar points instore and they emailed me to confirm this had happened.  So this seems to be a new security procedure they have initiated.

I received an email today congratulating me on treating myself with 1000 Nectar points yesterday.

Only flaw being it was in a Sainsbury's local, 133 miles away.

Contacted them via "X" and they are looking into it.

In the meantime time I've spent time Googling the issue and it appears to be happening constantly.

Quick update, while in DM chat on X I've had another 7000 spent over 120 miles away from where I'm sat.
