    1. Order cost overall is £198 where £25 were paid for shipping. Fedex are putting duty on overall cost
H/S tariff code for "Autoparts" is 20% tax.
Sorry I can't make total sense of what you're saying here but I think you may be confusing duty with tax as 20% is just too coincidental bearing in mind the tax on goods sold in the UK just happens to also be 20%.

This is why I asked whether you paid sales tax to eBay on your behalf, or if you hadn't paid VAT at all.

If I had to guess, looking back at this again, DT might mean Duty on the original transaction, VT might mean VAT on the original transaction, DPC is some form of service charge and VAT is the VAT on the service charge.
    Thank you once again.
    My questions are:

    1. Should i be charged by Fedex on overall value of this purchase? As mentioned previously, part itself only cost £173
    2. Are Fedex calculations correct? I have reached out for the to clarify what this invoice shows but to no avail. Even if I use translate (as you suggested) it gives me zero understanding what i am paying for and what amounts.

Looking at various import calculators they telling me my import duty for "autoparts"  should only be £39
(import duty for 8708999790 is 2%)
Duty is paid on the landed cost (part cost, postage cost, packaging cost, insurance cost)
VAT is paid on the landed cost + duty

You've been charged £3.90 Duty which equates to a parcel of £195 landed cost at your 2% proposal

VAT you've been charged £52.92 which doesn't look right as would have expected it to be £39.75, that level of VAT would point to a landed cost + duty of £264.60

You dont need to translate anything, its written in English what the letters after each charge are the only confusing point is that "VT" is the import VAT and the "VAT" is the VAT on the handling fee

Did you keep the packaging from the original delivery to see what was on the declaration form both in terms of product code and values?

  • Thank you DullGreyGuy, very helpful.
Packaging only had Fedex shipping label on it, nothing else. Inside was sellers ebay invoice.

DullGreyGuy has given a detailed response and calculation.  The seller would have declared the value in Euros and I wonder if this figure has been used to calculate the VAT (VT on the invoice) having not being changed into Pounds.  That might explain the higher than expected figure.
Some years ago I imported a shipment from Samoa (I think) which came via New Zealand with TNT.  They calculated the charges based on the declared figure being NZ currency rather than Samoan, so I was sent a bill for thousands of Pounds on a £300 parcel.  I queried it and they eventually produced a correct calculation.
