Estimated Postal Cost?

I have just listed a couple of items on ebay both with RM postage of £3.75 second class. I don't use ebay postage but buy my own.

On getting emails confirming the listings there is a star next to the postage amount and at the bottom it says - This price is an estimation of postage costs and once buyer has paid the finalised price will appear.  What is that all about?  I only have the RM 2nd option listed.

Is this something to do with the new postage thing they have brought in and how do I opt out if it is?

Maybe because royal mail prices have changed in the last week. Any listing which was listed before but sold after the change would incur a higher RM price so maybe they have caveated all sales.

    Just guess mind.

I've found the buying postage through Ebay quite efficient once I got my head around it.

I don't recall ever seeing that before I will list something and see what it says.

Unless of course it's something to do with the complaints around ebay suggesting postage costs and getting to wrong.

  • I've never seen that before so it must be to do with the price increases.  As long as you put in the correct dimensions and weight, they are usually spot on (because they have weight and size ccategories rather than a sliding scale).

I haven’t seen the new postage system yet but for the normal listing tools currently available you enter your own postage, ebay don’t fill it in based on weight and size. All my accounts have personal templates anyway where I just choose my options, for instance I have RM48 , large letter, standard parcels etc, all my info is pre filled with despatch time and I just click on the postage that fits my item.

I usually only use RM 2nd and 48 hr and very occasionally Evri.
When I list I will just offer the one postal option and not a choice as I did on the items last night.
I have never seen that before non the e-mail that's why it caught my eye.
The price is correct with RM website and nothing added for packaging etc.
