Where do cobwebs come from?

I don't mean the type of cobwebs that spiders make, where you can see intricate threads, but the threads hanging down from the ceiling, single strands with maybe dust.
If I don't dust my ceiling and walls, I see these. But they would be no good for catching fies.

Aren't they just broken bits of web🤔
I have to say they do seem to appear despite seeing no spiders0 -
I thought they were spiders?
They might not catch flies in the normal sense but may accumulate.

If I had a better memory, I would be able to regale you with lots of facts from a lecture about spiders that I attended. I remember that they can produce 7 (9?) types of thread, not all of which is used for webs. Some is used for parachuting. I've seen spiders (fairly slowly) drop down on single threads, sometimes so spider equivalent of abseiling?Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Spiders don't just spin webs, they also use drag lines for safety as they move around.
As horrific as they are to some, spiders really are amazing creatures.1 -
Those are where the spider has dropped down from the ceiling and then left the strand, which is sticky and gathers dust until you can see it1
