Nationwide CHAPS payments

I just wondered if someone had recent experience of these? I saw a few issues reported in 2018 but all seems quiet recently.
I understand they use HSBC as their CHAPS provider, and that you can initiate a CHAPS payment on the morning of when you want it to be sent, either in branch or through online banking.
Does anyone know which method would be more reliable? I guess In branch may allow you to provde ID, passport etc and reduce the risk of subseuqent fraud checks? But does that just add another layer of processing, eg where they fill in a form which is faxed somewhere else, like when you arrange an ISA transfer in branch. It seems to me there may be more scope for transcription errors by doing it in branch? But at least they can prove it was me inititiating it.
I will be using this for a house completion later this month and want to reduce the chance of problems, without losing a fortune in interest by sending it weeks earlier.

I don't have experience with Nationwide CHAPS payments myself but assuming a 6-figure sum is involved, I would book a Branch appoinment in the morning of the CHAPS day, to be certain that an appropriately qualified and authorised person is available to deal with the transaction.

Nationwide lost my last chaps transaction for 11 days and it cost me £62.00.if you have to use them,go to branch. The online method is not 100%.better still dont use them as previously mentioned they use hsbc and their only point of contact is e.mail.poor service in my opinion.0
