Gas fireplace - Is it worth it?

Is it worthwhile me getting this gas fireplace checked/ turned on and chimney swept? I’m wondering if its cheaper to use for an open plan living room vs gas central heating
We have TRV’s installed on all radiators in the house. I’ve heard a lot of the heat through fireplaces escape through the chimney?

Otherwise these types of fires are not very efficient as ayou are right a lot of the heat goes up the chimney. They can look quite like an authentic coal fire when lit, and the 'coals' glow. They do give out some heat, but would struggle to heat up an open plan/large room.
We have one in our lounge, but rely on the central heating/radiator 95% of the time.
We use it only when the weather is proper cold, and only ever use it on the lowest setting. It certainly does give out some heat to the immediate surrounds, and makes the room look cosy, if you like the more traditional look.
You might get away with not sweeping the chimney, unless you use it a lot. However I would get a gassafe engineer to just check out the gas connection, before using it.0
