you have to pay a deposit of £3 i believe, you can either buy a particular travel card e.g. a one day travelcard and use it, or if you just prepay on it say £10 and it will cap upto the price of a one day travel card (i know its true for train and bus at least but dont know about bus just by itself)
check the transport for london website and just check the prices between cash and oyster, can be quite a big difference e.g. one bus ride on oyster is 90p but cash its £20 so if your traveling a lot and maybe coming back to london may be worth investingYes Your Dukeiness0 -
What zone are you staying in? Personally, i'd stick 10 quid on it and see how long that lasts.. the cap is 6.10 for peak journeys in zone 1-2
Yeh, expensive, i just spend 1720 on a years 1-6 travelcard0 -
Your choices are a paper one day travel card each day for the zones you use (or a bus only one at £3.50 a day)
OR Pay as you Go Oyster. You pay a £3 deposit and as much cash as you want to put on it (I'd suggest £25 for 4 days). It then deducts a discounted cash fare every time you use it, capped at 50p less than the one day travel card for the same zones you have travelled in. Then before you go home (or after if you post it in) you claim a refund of the unspent cash and the £3
If you were on your own I'd suggest Oyster. However in another post you mention an 11 year old son. He will need an Oyster of his own and pay adult fares unless you get him a child rate photocard - impractical for a short term visitor. If you get the paper travelcard you can get one for him for £1 a day, off-peak, as long as he travels with you.0
