last minute

Okay, for anyone who has read my prevous posts I am a fan of lastminute.com. However I have just got back from a weekend break to Paris booked through them. The eurostar journey was wonderful ( it always is!) however when we arrived at the hotel (the Merryl) a two star, no apology given but the receptionist simply said you are not booked in here you are staying at another hotel around the corner! I went to look at the hotel, what a dump!! peeling wallpaper, no stars, number on the door in marker pen! and people who looked like illegals sat in reception! And it looked a fire trap! I said to the receptionist there that there was no way I would be staying in that hotel!
I went back to the Merryl and got no help from the receptionist is finding another room, big mistake! I am the manager of a 4 star hotel in London so know whats what! I eventually booked myself into another hotel I know in Paris and have paid for the 2 nights there! The Newton Opera which is wonderful by the way and where I would normally stay, except on this occasion I was travelling with a friend who does not have much cash!
I have contacted Lastminute this afternoon regarding a refund and was told to email them.
So watch this space to see how LastMinute deal with this!

Just out of interest, did Lastminute just refund the hotel element of the original "package", or the cost of the hotel you stayed in? And what about compensation for the inconvenience etc? This incident could have ruined your weekend - and cost you a lot more than budgeted for.

They just refunded me the hotel element of the trip, but I expected that! I paid the extra for a better hotel. At the end of the day it was not their fault, it was the hotel who had overbooked and booked us out!
The thing that concerned me with the hotel was if for example we had been a honeymoon couple or someone on their first trip to Paris that would have been a complete nightmare.
The person I spoke to at Lastminute said they will probably drop the hotel from its site! the name by the way is Hotel Merril! avoid!
