Partner's debt

Options
Hi

I live with my partner & we share our bills 50/50.

However, whilst I am debt-free, my partner isn't - he owes approximately £9,000, although I suspect it may be more as he is evasive when asked.

My concern is that, if his debt becomes unmanageable and he defaults, then my credit rating may be affected by this as I am living under the same roof as him.

Please could someone clarify this for me, and any other implications?

Many thanks!

Merely living under the same roof doesn't link your credit records but joint accounts, mortgages, etc, may - is there any evidence of financial association on your credit files?
  • Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

We have a joint mortgage account but separate bank accounts. My partner's debt is on his credit card.

I would need to check my credit files.

    Thank you

If you have a joint mortgage then your credit files will be linked, I'm afraid.
  • Thank you very much, I appreciate your help.
