What are these items?

Hi All,

I have been clearing out a shed for an elderly friend and found the following. They asked me to sell them for them but I'm not sure if they're worth anything.

1. Nuts bolts and washers - do these have any value?
2. I'm unsure what that item is or if it has any value.
3. Appears to be car parts, scrap?

Any help would be appreciated.

Nothing of value there. They can go to the mental bin at a recycling centre.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • Nothing of monetary value, but they might be of use to someone.  How about advertising them for free on FB marketplace or something?  Things like that might come in handy for people who like to tinker in their shed

I save far too much stuff 'in case it's useful' but this is all rusted and you can buy new washers and bolts for pence
The rusted car parts won't fit any car now but could be offered to a club that restores cars. I doubt they'd pay for it though as there's every chance it's too far gone and won't fit if restored.
The middle one? Is that something from a railway?

A railway part is a possibility as his shed it beside an old railway and he was gifted some items around 50 years ago.

The metal recycling bin would be a better choice. The mental bin is full (or at least mine is).

Taking it to a scrap merchant might yield 10p per kilo - Unless there is a substantial quantity, not enough to cover petrol.

Took us weeks to empty the 2 garages, 1 shed and stuff down the side of the house that my Dad had stored "just in case" combined with the 10 or so bikes he'd "rescued" from skips etc with the intent of doing them up but never starting to.

He'd even taken party payment for a job in a load of industrial sized filters and valves etc from a site he'd overseen the decommissioning of and had stored at home with the intent of selling them to another client in the future but he died before he even found someone that may have wanted it.

I think we were lucky, we asked a scrap merchant to take it all and whilst you normally pay £X to collect it and then get all the scrap value leaving to you risk that is below X they agreed to waive any shortfall. They were honest too as whilst there was 3tons of scrap steel they also identified a load of copper, aluminium etc so ended up with £1k (early 90s) after collection.

Think the OP may get a penny or two from a scrap merchant so be way out of pocket... better put them in recycling themselves.

....Unless they (nuts and bolts) are imperial sizes, then depending on size and thread type they can be rather more expensive or difficult to find.

If there is a ratchet or locking mechanism on the side we can't see then probably a fence wire strainer similar to this -

Imperial size nuts & bolts are always difficult to find, but fortunately still suppliers around. If push comes to shove, it is easy enough to make one from solid bar (almost trivial with a CNC lathe) - Have done that on occasion for a real oddball size.
