From what I can see, HB can normally be back dated by 1 month only. Was there a reason for not claiming?Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

His mental health was very poor and his family were not aware how to support him to complete the HB application0

New claims for housing benefit haven't been possible for working age people since end of December 2018 unless living in either supported or temporary housing. If those do not apply they will not be able to claim it.
For help with the rent they will need to claim Universal Credit and this can only be backdated for a maximum of 1 month in extreme circumstances.
Are they currently claiming any benefits? if so which ones exactly please?0
