Convection Microwave

Options
I hope I can post this in here? So I'm researching microwaves for a new place - and the product "convection microwave" appeared. eg

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9546345

£190. Also from amazon @ £160 but I think I prefer argos as a retailer...anyway.

Some brief reading says the normal stuff you'd expect - don't expect a complete oven replacement, but may be useful. the element is at the top not the bottom, so heating (whats the word) "volume consistency" might not be entirely uniform.

My main question is this if anyone can advise - given that a standard microwave doesn't actually physically get hot, and that this will be up to about 200C regularly - does that reduce the lifespan?

not entirely related but 15 years ago I had my first and last washer dryer (another combi product) - I wouldn't buy one of those products again

I had a sharp combi for 5 years, mostly for the grill, but that's still direct heat. It's still working in the garage, but a massive beast of a machine that's been swapped for a smaller sharp combi, 18 months and counting.

My washer dryer is also five years old and I've never had a problem with it, so maybe I'm just lucky.

We have a 10 year old John Lewis branded washer dryer, also no issues.

I'd expect these ovens to last reasonably 5+ years and they are designed to heat up to those temperatures they're often much heavier than a standard microwave.

My first combi microwave lasted well over 20 years, and we only replaced it when we did because there were a few cracks in the door which were worsening. The current one (a Panasonic) must be at least 7 years old now and gets a fair bit of use on the combi and convection settings, I wouldn’t even think of replacing it with a “standard” microwave as it’s ability to re-heat things like batch cooked pasta bakes with a crispy top is a game changer! (10 minutes on combi)

My microwave died and I got a convection replacement. Has come in very handy as the grill in my cooker broke so I use my microwave on grill setting. Works well.

The Sharp combi microwave I bought in 1992 is still working just fine. So is the additional Panny one I bought 6 years ago.

Walked home carrying the Sharp one too; half an hour uphill. I'm not doing that again :)

Combination ovens are great in my experience, only thing is if you want to microwave something you can't do it if it's cooking on convection mode.

I have been using a Panasonic combination microwave for years, I use the convection oven on it everyday usually set to 200 degrees, I think it goes to 220.  Fits a pizza tray in it.  I use the grill sometime too. Top notch
