Consumer Act - Fixing Car with reasonable care and skill

Options
My car is currently in a garage of one of the main dealerships. I'm not a car expert, so please excuse the language.

The car went in to have work done and they informed me of the price, namely approx. £2,000, which I was okay with. This was to install a new ICU (where the fuses go).

They have now told me that this hasn't worked and now want to charge me another £2,700 for further work on the 'coil', where there is a central fuse (again sorry for the description).

I spoke to the CAB today and they advised that I should be expecting them to get my car back on the road and the work to be provided with reasonable care and skill as they are recognised experts in this field.

The lady said that as the initial work that we agreed on hadn't worked, they should now complete the extra work free of charge to get my car back on the road.

If they were to do this second batch of work, there is still no guarantee that this will succeed, so I could be potentially asked for more money to fix my car.

Has anyone else had any such dealings with cars not being fixed properly and more importantly had a successful outcome from use of the Consumer Rights Act to get the work completed free of charge?

They should replace the fusebox back and refund the initial fee. I suspect it's the ECU, these very rarely go wrong and normally replaced when the garage don't understand or failed to investigate. I would get them to put you back to where you started and go to an independent.
