Wiping debt emails

Options
How long after sending mental health and debt form will credit cards respond?

Will they likely wipe the debt or 75% off?

Not an easy question. Responses will dribble in over several weeks.

What did you ask for? Did you ask for write-offs?

There's no set time and every company will treat your requests differently, especially depending on exactly what you've asked for - any info you're willing to share in that respect would be useful. But in any case, I definitely wouldn't expect it to be quick

Can you clarify - did you submit a case to the card issuer where you said you have mental health issues and the borrowing was a problem and now causing financial hardship? When was your diagnosis by a professional? When did you tell the lenders you had this?

Why do you believe they would just wipe all or a majority of the debt?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I can see that you posted on dfw about this in August. Sorry I didn't see that at the time and that no-one responded.

Dfw is probably better suited to debt strategies.

I can see that you used the proper DMHEF form so I would hope that you get sympathetic responses.

Maybe start a new thread when they come in.

To clarify - you got the DMHEF completed by your doctor/surgery/medical professional and sent that off with a covering letter asking for leniency?  I've seen one case where it took the council about 3 months to respond but that was quite positive.  Other creditors seem to be more of not writing anything off but not chasing perhaps knowing that it will fall off the credit history and be statute barred sooner rather than later.  Less work perhaps and maybe looks better on their accounts.

  • Thanks for your replies- I’ve sent in the debt mental health form.. asking for write offs.. I’m diagnosed schizophrenia and bpd. My community nurse did the form. When I asked this question to credit card company: after asking here.. they said about two weeks. It’s been one week almost.

I’m hoping they wipe them but if they don’t but offer 75% I’ve seen in some posts.. that would be manageable also.. I’ve sent in expenses form and cover letter.

i will update when I get responses ~ I was just curious how long the process would take..

would the offer me token payment while I’m awaiting their response… or is this something I have to ask for?

Just be patient and wait for them. Let the process take its course.

If you have any surplus income save it somewhere that isn't connected to your debts

I’ve had few notifications that the credit card has suspended the card- I’m hoping that means I will receive a reply very soon from them.

A friend has his debts wiped out on a mental health basis, but it was not a quick process. I helped him with the forms, the banks responded quickly with regards to overdrafts and after sending supporting evidence they wrote them off very quickly, the credit cards and loans too longer, I think one, with some back and forth and documentation going missing in the post took around two months, but all were written off in the end.
  • NewDay have locked me out of apps- so I can’t even pay the minimum this month until I hear from them.. does this mean they have wiped the debt or be sending it to debt collectors? I’ve never missed a payment…
