Aegon-request for NI number

I have received a letter from Aegon requesting details of my NI number. On contacting them by phone got recorded message saying these letters were sent in error and to ignore it.
I am however concerned as they have quoted a Plan Reference number and I have no knowledge of any Pension Plan, Investment Bond any policy with them.
Why do they have my details.
Cen anyone help?

Call them and ask? (ignoring recorded message).

Why do they have my details.
Because you had a plan with them at some point in the past.   The policy number would be on the letter sent.

    Cen anyone help?
Don't worry about it.   Aegon have said it was a mistake.    The handful of cases I have come across have all been closed products.    Don't give it any more energy.

  • I have tried that. Being cut off as they are experiencing "Technical difficulties". Thank you
  • Thank you Dunstonh I just don't recognise the company from any past financial dealings. I appreciate your response.

Aegon have bought a number of books over the years.    Some of the larger ones are Cofunds, Scottish Equitable and Blackrock's workplace pensions.  There are others.      The ones I have seen were on Scottish Equitable plans.

  • Thank you that is helpful, it may be that I had something with Scottish Equitable. I am just a bit confused as it says it is a performance bond. I have googled performance bonds and it seems to refer to some kind of guarantee in the construction industry which I have nothing to do with.

Bond is a word used in many contexts.
Performance is a word commonly used in financial products, and many other aspects of life and business.
So will be just a coincidence.

Marketing names don't reflect what the product it is half the time.

Coincidence of name only.   Often occurs when the word "bond" is used.

There was a Scottish Equitable Performance bond.
Many would refer to that as an onshore investment bond nowadays.  However, its generic name was a single premium whole of life assurance plan.     It was invested in the Scottish Equitable With Profits fund.
