Unemployment Insurance Claim near renewal

Options
My job will be made redundant and my last day is Nov. 30.
I have unemployment insurance but the annual renewal is on Nov. 14.
When you renew you're supposed to tell them if you know you're going to be unemployed.
I'm worried that if I inform the insurance company now, they won't renew my policy and therefore I won't be able to make a claim. If I don't tell them and claim at the end of November they may challenge it saying I must have known when I renewed on Nov 14, given that I would have been given some notice.
I've been paying this policy for years and it seems unfair if I can't claim when I become unemployed just because of bad timing with respect to the renewal date and redundancy date.
Are there any guidelines around this type of thing that I should know about? I'm sure it happens often enough.
Thanks.
