Turn off I Message for just one contact

I have inherited an ancient I Pad and now if my wife send a text from her I Phone, it comes to my I Pad rather than my Android phone.
She doesn't want to delete my email address as she may need to email me sometimes - is there another way?

Is the pad and iPhone both signed into the same iCloud account if you don’t use iMessage on the iPad turn it off if there signed into the same account I might be wrong but wasn’t there an option to either have things shared across devices or not.

You need to go into your iPad and check the email/phone numbers associated with your iCloud iMessage and make sure it's just an email address.
Your wife needs to go into settings and make sure it's set that an iMessage that fails then gets resent by SMS. After than she needs to send you a message using iMessage sending it to your phone number not your email. It may try to use iMessenger given you were previously setup as a user on the phone number but should fall over to SMS when it fails. From then on it should continue to use TXT for future messages.0 -

When someone sends a message using iMessenger to a new recipient the service checks if the recipient is a known iMessenger user and if so sends it via that protocol and if not sends it via SMS. For known recipients it only periodically checks.
I'm not exactly a 'new recipient' we've been married for 40 years!I did have an IpHone 3gs but soon jumped to androidI've had this (ancient) I Pad for about a month!

Thanks for your time - replies in bold above

This is going to be one of those threads that is frustrating to do online/by messages...J_B said:DullGreyGuy said:iMessage can be set for both telephone numbers and email addresses. Yes, thats the right place to check for the iPadJ_B said:Can't really see how to do that, sorry, but why would it fail as it appears on my I Pad?
The other thing she should do to make life easier is to go into Contacts and save your mobile number and your email address under a different contact (eg Him Indoors and Him Indoors Email)... with iOS if you have someone with multiple numbers/email addresses Messenger will consolidate them all into one thread. If you reply it's then not immediately obvious to which phone number/email your message is going to be sent.

You want it to fail because you want it on your Phone not iPad no?But ... she still wants to I Message her mother and maybe some others. It's only one contrary chap (moi?) that's causing the issues

That was my plan initially but with everything aPple being so simpleI wondered if there was a correct way!

Apple generally is simple and in particular with other Apple products... an AppleWatch unlocks a laptop automatically, iPhone can be used as the webcam for a laptop or AppleTV, an iPad next to a MacBook Pro can be used as a second screen etc all as out the box functionality etc. Apple remains fairly simple across non-apple products but not quite as nicely.0 -
