Reading the Meter

I reluctantly had a smart meter fitted a couple of years ago and it seems to work, never used the display unit, it was put in a drawer.

The reason I had the meter changed was that the electricity meter is nigh on impossible to read, even when the tonne of rubbish I have stored in the cupboard is removed and I thought it would be easier.

Anyway, I am now changing supplier and although my current supplier seems to get regular meter readings, my new supplier wants me to submit one.

Guess what, the display unit seems to tell me all sorts of stuff I am not interested in but I have not yet found the bit of the display that tells me the actual real time meter reading.

Does anyone know how to get the actual meter reading number from the display.

I am with EDF if that helps

Read it off the actual meter, not the IHD. Not all IHDs show the cumulative meter readings, only the recent consumption.

Or if you post a picture of the IHD, or the model number from the back, someone will be able to tell you how to get the reading from the IHD (assuming the meter is still communicating with it).

My EDF IHD (GEO Duet II) accurately displays the current readings.

    From the main screen.

    More > Menu > Settings > Advanced > Elec Meter >

This shows the Meter Serial Number and Reading

My IHD (which was originally supplied by EDF) is OK, ->, ->, ->, OK to get the electricity reading.

Which is why we need a picture or model number.

If you are only interested in electric - are you on a multirate tariff. Like Economy 7.

If so the IHD is generally useless for what you want now  - as most do not give the split peak and off-peak readings - so you are generally guaranteed will need to get to the actual meter.  And press buttons.

To help you know which - either look at suppliers help FAQs

or we we will need the meter model - not the IHD model.
