having visited China twice but never made it to the Terracotta Warriors, I'm desperate to come and see them - but coming from Scotland it's a bit of a trek so I wondered whether anyone had been and what they thought?

Depends, myself and partner spent last weekend in London and the highlight of saturday was the Terracota army. For a brief look at the warriors and to witness the skills and dedication of the makers it's worth a visit.Infact we are now looking at booking for next year to see the real thing so we're doing it the opposite way round to yourself.
Book some tickets in advance, keep an eye on the trains for bargain rates, bag a room at the Hoxton and make a weekend of it. We travel down from Yorkshire twice a year and love the fact that you're never short of things to do in London

i thought it was an interesting news flash when i read the title

I went in Rome and was very impressed - and also slightly disappointed as my expectations hadn't been met.
I'd expected to see a lot more of the life-size statues - something that would give me a feel of the magnitute of the project. And not seeing this disappointed.
Once I'd got over that I was really impressed by the skill and thought that went into putting the army together - and also the way it was presented.0 -

Can't you just pretend you're still in China.
Then comparatively it's not such a trek

Not worth the bother you will only see 20 warriors, right "Swiz", and some artifacts are
"Replicas" IMHO0 -
AFAIK it's been sold out for months. They did issue extra tickets, at £25, for I think Christmas Eve & New Years Day but that's probably not much use. The 500 tickets that are available each day at 9.15 seem to be gone within minutes as several friends have been disappointed despite getting there well before 9.
I would love to go to see them in China, it must be amazing to see so many in one place. I've heard that you're herded through the site quite quickly which would be disappointing, however it does cover a huge area. The answer seems to go on more than one day so you don't miss anything.
Having spoken to some people that have been to the BM exhibition I'm disappointed to have missed out. However they've all said it's just made them want to visit the real thing~which I'm sure was one of the reasons for China allowing them out of the country in the first place!0 -
There is some availability for daytime tickets - a few days in March and the first few days of April. There are loads of Sainsbury tickets availble but no idea how to go about getting these. There are also National Rail tickets available - again no idea what is involved here.
There are tickets available for evening viewings (10pm onwards) - most dates available
Would I travel all the way from Scotland - cant give an opinion on that as I have not been yet. I did really want to go - just missed out on the pre-booking due to procrastination so am really happy to have got night time tickets (much more fun).
I havent got any plans to visit China in the next 5 years so this is at least a chance to see some of the army and will perhaps inspire me to start saving0 -
Also I understand that there is a disount if you are a member of the National Trust but you have to ask - may save a bit on the day!
There is also a wonderful hotel called the Montague on the Gardens just behind the British Museum which does some good deals through laterooms.com for weekends, including a bottle of Champagne!
LesleyNO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........0 -
I was browsing the web last night, and came across a company called Superbreaks and rang them - they have tickets for the 10pm slots, and apparently you get about an hour in the exhibition. Basically all I want to do is fly down, see them and then fly back, I'm going back to China next year but not to Xi'an, and it seems such a shame to miss them. Thanks for all your comments, and Blindman thanks for posting the previous thread.0
