in Credit cards
I just applied for a Tesco bank credit card as I'm very close to my 12 month interest free ending this month. Dismayed to be turned down though, whereas a year ago had no problem with Virgin money (the card I'm wishing to transfer balance from). It said on the decline page they used Transunion.
I was hoping to apply for a different card (either post office, capital one or hsbc - the latter has the longest 0% offer) but wondering if they'll use Transunion or a different agency. Anyone any idea?
Or will applying for any card now immediately after the decline now cause me issues? Really worried as I cant afford to pay the virgin card at 24% apr when the 0% ends this month.

Your problem is more likely something else, other than the CRA they use.
So could be affordability etc.Life in the slow lane0 -

Finding a card that uses a different CRA doesn't necessarily mean you will get a card as firms tend to share data with all of the CRAs even if they only use one for the check, the data on each will be much the same. It is likely you simply didn't fit the profile for Tesco. I would suggest looking at the next card they recommended but do a soft check on the company site not just a direct application. I was turned down by Virgin last year but got a Tesco one a few months later and some more payments on the BTs and an HSBC one 2 months ago
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The existing debt, and also now the recent credit application, will make it difficult to get another card. Ideally there should have been a plan in place when you applied for the Virgin card to clear the balance by the end of the period (ie. by now). Probably wouldn't hurt to try one more time with another provider, but you still need a plan in case you get declined or don't get a sufficiently high limit to BT the full debt. You might get some useful advice if you post a SOA on the DFW board and the helpful folks there can help you figure out how to address the underlying debt.1
