Isn't the problem here they easyJet gave you details that were different from the actual conditions for the hire company?

It's poor service from easyJet but they can claim that their advice is just guidance and that you need to check the car hire t&C's.

easyJet haven't kindly gone out and found a nice reliable car hire company, a dodgy car hire with bad reviews has convinced easyJet to promote them in exchange for referral fees (I assume)

Not sure what you can do. Maybe give sleazyjet a bad Google review
Where does the OP say that easyJet gave different conditions to that of the hire car company?

Sorry but you had all the conditions in writing and you failed to uphold your side of the bargain, can see any reason why they would refund you.
We just got back from Malaga where we rented via RecordGo through Rentalcars.com (used them for years in USA)
Conditions were clear if a little over the top, photo license / passport / separate proof of address and stated clearly that failure to supply any item would mean no car and no refund.

Car hire for 7 days (Brand new Yaris hybrid with unlimited mileage) was a grand total of £140.57 + optional £46.65 for insurance for the excess which was €900

Looking on the bright side; you got off lightly. Goldcar attract getting on for a half a million highly critical online reviews, many of them on TripAdvisor. There, the all too common report of credit card deductions for imaginary or disputed damage, might make a cynic feel that’s part of their routine operating procedure?
