Car Fuel Door Fell Off
Hi All
I have a Nissan Qashqai, Last week I was filling up and while doing so the fuel door fell off onto the floor. It wouldn't fit back on, the cap does go back on and clicks into place. The door is still attached to the cap I have just put some tape around the door. I do want to get this sorted, was going to take car for MOT this weekend, would it fail if it was taped up? Or am do I need to get it sorted first?

The fuel door is not an important part of the car. I don't think it would matter even if you keep the fuel door at home. Perhaps the garage can sort this issue at the same time as doing your MOT?

Mine is held on by a pin, it might just have lost its pin. If so and you still have the door it's very simple to replace.1

If it could fall off, likely to be an MOT failure.

Depends on how the cap seals,it is not twist turn lock but pushes in ,the door is the lock seal?
Don't know just something to look at.

Yes, the fuel cap should be checked on the MOT test.
I'm slightly confused by your description though - you say that you fit the cap and turn to lock it, then close the flap, but also that the cap is attached to the flap.0 -

I once had a car fail for having a "temporary" filler cap. The examiner must have opened the flap to see this.0 -
Snip the cap from the door and fit leaving the door off.0

Don't snip it off unless you really have to, there should be a way to detach the cap from the plastic tie, or the plastic tie from the flap. Then when it is repaired it will go back together.Obviously it won't be secure, and will be an absolute magnet for vandals to pour soft drinks/beer/Other Fluids into your tank, so I'd get the flap repaired ASAP.The cap is needed for the correct functioning of the emission control system, and it will fail MOT without it (actually if it is missing or doesn't seal), but the cover flap is just for cosmetics/security and no flap is not a failure. You can't just tape over the flap as this is grounds for refusal to test- as the test cannot be carried out if he can't get to the filler cap.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Why has the door come off? Have the screws come out? Get a couple of self tappers and reattach. If not keen ask someone to have a look.0
