Getting a sheet white

OK some numpty in my house has put a white bed sheet in with their main washing, most of which is black, and now the clean sheet looks like it hasn't been washed for YEARS it's dingy grey
Is there any way to get it back to white or do I need to chuck it in the 'painting gear' box?

You could try soaking and washing in Vanish Oxi-action.
Personally I wouldn't be discarding a bedsheet just because it's been discoloured in the wash - it would be different if it was an item of clothing I'd be seen out and about in.

You can try soaking in a solution of Milton Sterilising fluid ( yes the stuff you use to sterilise babies bottles) . It has a mild bleaching effect and certainly can get some stains out.
Then wash it using washing powder in the machine at a high(ish) temperature.. The powder has also a mild bleaching effect that you do not get with liquid, capsules etc., which is why it is usually better for washing white things.

I accidently washed a white martial arts gi with a black one. They are only suitable for cold washes so I added Dr Beckmann colour run remover and it worked. That might be worth a try

Dye it a different colour and just go out and buy a new one if you are wedded to white sheets.

Before you go buying anything new, if you have normal cleaning bleach (thin or thick liquid, or tablets, but not loo cleaner), you could try that.  It probably has instructions for fabrics on the container.

I don't like using bleach often, but it's fine used occasionally and is generally more effective than oxygen bleach.  Just be careful not to splash the clothes you're wearing while you do it!
  • I use Napisan to keep whites bright - just pop it in the washing machine drum and the whites come out bright.
    Good luck,

That liquid seems to have as prominent ingredient bleach at 2%

I noticed that oxygen based bleachers seem to need long soaks and 50 degrees to be effective
  • If it’s cotton just put it on a 90 wash
