Hi!
You don't say which crossing you are looking at....? Dover>Calais is almost certainly going to be the cheapest (although take a look at Norfolkline if you are up that neck of the woods). The longer western crossings such as Portsmouth>Caen/St Malo/Cherbourg are very expensive in peak season - though the cheapest operator on these routes seems to be LD Lines (who we sailed with this year & they were excellent).:jDebt-Free Wannabe by December 2008 :jJan 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£400[/strike] £297.40Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£320[/strike]£2008 for 2008 Member Number 411 _party_£50 won0 -

If you check out the Tesco Clubcard Deals site you'll see that there are ferry companies listed there ... so jumping on that if you collect Clubcard points could be great (as you get x4 the face value of the voucher in deals!!!)
Sometimes there are vouchers in ebay ... usual rules apply ... make sure the rating is high, bad feedback minimalised and try to make contact pre bid if at all possible!
Depends whether you would consider doing the Eurotunnel too ... there are sometimes really good deals in the papers etc for that.
If all else fails, you could copy the Top Gear crew and try to modify the van so that it can go on water too!!

Last year Speedferries worked out by far the cheapest for us, not sure if they take campervans.

Just returned from France (yesterday mid-day). We are frequent channel crossers as we have a little pad in Le Touquet and normally use Speedferries being quick, cheap and nearest of the ferries to our destination as they go into Boulogne. The BIG problem with Speedferries is reliability due to the fact that they only have one boat ('welcome onboard SpeedOne' as they say in the safety intro -there is no Speed 2!).
Yesterday we arrived for our crossing Boulogne-Dover about an hour before sailing at 11am to find long queues and people turning out of the dock again having gone through check-in. Apparantly the ship was damaged below the waterline during storms on Friday and has been out of service since then. So instead of using the £22 crossing we had booked we had to drive 'up the road' to the tunnel where we were charged £140 to be taken back to UK. This is the worst of the many problems we have had with them this year. Generally they suffer from an increasing lateness the later in the day you want to cross - in the summer we often come back on the 11pm crossing which is usually running about an hour late because of the accumulation of delays from the first 6am Dover crossing building throughout the day. Another delay this year were caused by the anchor getting tangled with a fishing net (about an hour and a half). Having said all that, when they're running well they are fine, excellent value for money.0 -
Thank you for your posts, we have travelled before with speedferries and found them excellent value, we are considering doing... dover to boulougne, st malo or cherbourg to jersey and then jersey to the uk, so any advice would be great.
Thanks
