Child benefit whilst on mat leave

Hi all, I hope someone can help advise on eligibility for child benefit. I'm very fortunate that I earn over £80k incl bonus. I'm currently on maternity leave and I believe my income for the year 2024 will be less than £50k making me eligible for child benefit. As it stands I believe the cut off is 80k tapered between 60-80k.

When I return to work and expect to earn above the £80k threshold do I resubmit an application to state I'm no longer eligible?

Thank you.

You really need to consider each tax year in isolation as that is how the High Income Child Benefit Charge works.

You are perfectly entitled to continue receiving the Child Benefit once your income goes back to a higher amount.  You just have to complete a Self Assessment return and pay any charge due.

Which means some people opt to stop the payments.  But that's a personal choice.  Some people are happy treating it as an interest free loan from HMRC.

And the £80k threshold is for taxable amount. If you earn 80k but pay 20k pension, so that your taxable amount is 60k then you'll get child benefit in full.
