what I do is turn hotspot on on my phone and then on my laptop I connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot

There are actually five, but two of them are the same method - but inverted.

It is a bit odd, that the OP has created threads implying limited knowledge on the subject, even implying they were barely aware of tethering, yet within a couple of days an expert and challenging others on the type of tethering they use:
