Replacing an integrated dishwasher

Not sure if this is a completely stupid question, but I’ve never replaced an integrated dishwasher before so don’t know exactly what to look out for

The existing one is old and needs replacing.  The wood panel on the front has a long horizontal handle on it.  When I look for replacements, the picture show handles in different places, short handles, long handles or even no handle. Does it matter what the picture shows for the new dishwashers I am looking at?  Do I assume that whatever the new dishwasher is, the existing wood panel with long horizontal handle that hides the current old integrated dishwasher will fit the new one, I.e the new one has various fixing points for the panel that hides the front of the dishwasher?  I assume that must be the case, as anything else wouldn’t make sense, but I wanted to check before spending a lot of money on a new one and then finding I had a problem

Thanks

As long as you buy the same level of integration (you get full and semi - the later you can see the dishwashers panel above the door) then it will be fine, most likely.

The current door will be on a bracket, you need to take the door off the machine and then remove the bracket. The new machine will come with its own bracket which you attach to the door and then put it on the machine. Have done it twice without major problems, once the bracket was very similarly positioned meaning the screw holes were abutting the previous ones so moved the bracket slightly to reuse the previous screw holes meaning the door was a couple of mm above where it'd ideally be.

Thanks, that makes sense now, and is obvious of course.  Have never had to replace one before so was in the dark

If it's a semi integrated in my experience they can come with blanking plates to allow them to take various size wooden decor panels. I'd be measuring the panel though and comparing it to the installation guide for the model I was considering. You can usually download these on the likes of ao.com or the manufacturers web sites.

Yes it can be done easily enough. I have done it twice. I have stuck to the same make of machine in case otherwise the timber front panel did not fit, but probably there was no need to

If you look on the  AO website, they have all the dimensions on for each dishwasher. Having just moved into a house with a dishwasher space and fittings but never had a dishwasher in there, I think we finally worked it out and ordered one that will fit. We'll see on Sunday. AO do offer a fitting service but it is £105 so probably a bit expensive if you are semi competent.
