Car repairs will take several weeks - MOT due now - should I SORN it?

Advice please!
Car in with Peugeot dealership due to a faulty catalytic converter which they replaced less than a year ago and so still under warranty. Have been advised that the new part will take "several weeks" as currently none available in the UK.
MOT due in 10 days so repairs won't be done in time. Is it best practice to SORN the car so that I don't have to worry about MOT overdue and may possibly save some tax too? I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a couple of months before I get car back (dealership is awful). I can't take it to another garage due to the part being fixed under warranty by this particular dealership.
I will not have the dealership to do the MOT once repair done (they've had enough of my money), and I know it's legal to drive it from dealership to another garage for the purposes of an MOT. I think my question is, if I don't SORN it and let the MOT date pass whilst it's in the dealership, do they automatically fine - or only if you're caught driving it?
Thanks

SORN covers the continuous tax and insurance requirements so there is no MOT related benefit from SORNing a car.
There would potentially be a tax saving but only if you can guarantee the garage won't put the car on the road.2 -
Need to check where the garage is storing the vehicle whilst awaiting the part. It wouldn't be the first one thats ever parked it on the road, at least during the day, which would make your SORN declaration invalid.0

If car is being kept at dealership while waiting for part.
DO NOT Sorn. They may well park it on the road at times. Thus no tax on the car can lead to clamping.
If you are going to take it home, & store off road then go for it. Just remember to tax before taking it back to garage & might as well let them MOT to save having to pre book a MOT elsewhere.Life in the slow lane0
