Apologies if this has already been answered previously, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows whether or not the 28 day limit for going abroad includes the days of travel?

I ask because someone I know is planning on going Nov 1st and returning 29th Nov, returning on 28th would be £50 more expensive, if you don't include the days of travel it would be 27 days. But if the days of travel are included it becomes 29 days.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Days of travel outside of the uk are counted

    Which benefit are you claiming?
The regulations for UC, for example, are that absence from the UK cannot exceed 1 month (UC Reg 11(b)(i)). To count as absent, you must not be in the UK on that day, so the day that you leave is not included, and neither is the day upon which you return as you are in the UK for at least part of both days.
Other benefits may have different regulations.

Sorry should have clarified, it's PIP for the person travelling but they have someone caring for them and that person receives carers allowance and UC. I understand PIP shouldn't be an issue but the other 2 benefits are likely to be affected?

So if you spend part of the day in the UK and part of it abroad does that count towards it do you know?

As said if you are in the UK for any part of a day then that counts as being in the UK for that whole day.
Ie. Take a flight out at anytime on the 1st and you are classed as being in the UK until the 2nd.
Land back in the UK anytime on the 3rd and you were back in the UK for the whole of the 3nd. (So that would be a one day trip abroad).

I'd consider building in a safety margin (even if it costs £50), for unforeseen events, delayed flights, etc to ensure the UC claimant is not out of the country for more than a month.
Agreed, assuming one month's UC payment is more than the £50 for an earlier flight, it's absolutely not worth the risk of a delayed flight as these are not uncommon occurrences.

This.  With everything that's going on in the world at the moment anything could happen.  Even if the holiday destination is nowhere near the hotspots, scheduled aircraft could be diverted elsewhere at short notice, with holidaymakers in safe areas being low priorities.

It does depend where someone is off to, I like Lanzarote and I would go for 4 weeks (1st-28th) except in Feb.
