Going abroad 28 days include days of travel?

Apologies if this has already been answered previously, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows whether or not the 28 day limit for going abroad includes the days of travel?
I ask because someone I know is planning on going Nov 1st and returning 29th Nov, returning on 28th would be £50 more expensive, if you don't include the days of travel it would be 27 days. But if the days of travel are included it becomes 29 days.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which benefit are you claiming? The regulations for UC, for example, are that absence from the UK cannot exceed 1 month (UC Reg 11(b)(i)). To count as absent, you must not be in the UK on that day, so the day that you leave is not included, and neither is the day upon which you return as you are in the UK for at least part of both days.Other benefits may have different regulations. Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter4

As said if you are in the UK for any part of a day then that counts as being in the UK for that whole day.Ie. Take a flight out at anytime on the 1st and you are classed as being in the UK until the 2nd.Land back in the UK anytime on the 3rd and you were back in the UK for the whole of the 3nd. (So that would be a one day trip abroad).3

I'd consider building in a safety margin (even if it costs £50), for unforeseen events, delayed flights, etc to ensure the UC claimant is not out of the country for more than a month.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.6
