Insurance claim denied

in IVA & DRO
I have had my home insurance claim denied and cancelled because my wife has an IVA is this right. The policy in my name and I’ve always paid for it when I signed up i did through compare the market which asks if you have been declared bankrupt not got IVA so answered no. I’ve checked today and it still says bankruptcy so does go compare. I’d understand if I had IVA but not my wife I don’t see what difference that makes. Take it they can do this ? Anybody else had similar thing ?

The home insurance covers you and your wife equally, regardless of whose name is on the policy. If you were unsure about anything regarding the insurance you should have spoken to the insurance company at the time of buying the policy

The pre-sales information for the policy should have pointed out if you needed to declare that your wife had an IVA. Ask the Insurer to tell you where your were told that you had to declare this. (It might also have been in the policy document, which you are always told to read and to cancel the policy if you find that there is something you don't like. You can always cancel for free in the first 14 days.)Mark_d said:The home insurance covers you and your wife equally, regardless of whose name is on the policy. If they can't tell you this, then, you would seem to have a valid complaint, which can be escalated to the Financial Ombudsman. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
The policy application will require details of those living in the property as well not just yourself. Without this information the insurance company is unable to determine the risk and charge the appropriate premium.walkieg42315 said:which asks if you have been declared bankrupt not got IVA so answered no. The question are very much of the "you or anyone else" type. You need to check. This is often a bit of a problem with comparison sites as they don't always ask exactly as the insurer does but the insurer's own confirmation should show the correct wording for you to agree.
