Oh guys! I need your advice!

I came across a link on Facebook last night offering a Stanley Cup for £3 (I should have known!)

I paid the £3 by my credit card and then realised afterwards it’s signed me up to a subscription with Azbuds for £45 a fortnight!

I have emailed them to ask them to cancel this ASAP (as advised to on their very shady and fake website) and have so far not received a response but it does say it can take up to 48 hours for them to respond.

I also called the credit card company to let them know and they said call us when the £3 comes out of pending and they will re-inburse. I also asked them if there is a CPA on the account and they said no, but I also cancelled the card last night too so hopefully they no longer have my correct card details!.

I really cannot afford to pay £90 a month for a fake subscription and the credit card company said they would reimburse but I am still a bit worried.

I’ve screenshot the website including the fake Stanley website and have also made Stanley aware of this. Even when you go to cancel on their website it doesn’t even do anything (just says error). The subscription isn’t even for anything, not a service or a program/app. It’s all very strange.

Worst case is they keep invoicing me and adding on late payment fees and I’m worried they could damage my credit file.

Just so glad I don’t use my debit card 🫣

Please help me put my mind at rest 😩

The other thing I can think of is transfer the small balance to one of my other cards and completely close this account, or am I jumping the gun a bit here?

Thanks so much in advance 🙏🏻

Cancelling a card doesn't cancel a CPA, the Card Updater services gives them the new card number

I know - I was told there was no CPA set up on the account when the bank checked on their system. All they could see for incoming and outgoing was my monthly direct debit.

If I have followed the instructions to cancel it (told to send email) then surely I am covered enough for reimbursement if funds are taken out?

    Yes you are.
However they MAY change the name slightly on the next and following payments so stay vigilant.

Dont know if @born_again knows or not... I'm an insurance person not banking but the one time I did touch on card payments the first payment taken went through on our normal merchant code it was only the second payment that switched to the CPA one, I dont know however if something goes on between the two payments or if something more is done with the initial payment to indicate the CPA is coming. It could be the CPA only comes into being on the second payment but this is just speculation

At the end of the day, keep your eye on it, if another payment does appear then advise your bank again that you'd told them this was unauthorised

Thank you. If the initial payment was a regular card payment, and the next attempted payment would start the CPA (if one is to be applied), theoretically that payment would fail as I have now cancelled the card and a new card number has been issued?

i just spoke to them through their chat and they cancelled it straight away, like literally 5 seconds, (wonder if it’s a bot?). They also sent me an email confirming the ‘subscription ’ is cancelled. They didn’t even question it, really really strange. Guess I won’t be getting my Stanley Cup! 😂

Funny thing is when I spoke to Stanley US they said they wanted to give me a discount code but couldn’t as I’m not a US citizen, they asked me to get in touch with European team and when I did they replied saying they don’t give out discount codes!! 😩

Now it’s cancelled, if they take any money out I am hoping this is enough to get my money back. Phew!!

Going to call the credit card company on Monday and ask for my £3 back!

    Thanks all
